Following an arson attack, St Mary’s Catholic Voluntary Academy in Derby was redesigned by Hawkins Brown to emphasize sustainability and biophilic principles. The project aimed to create a safer and more resilient educational environment.
Burnblock’s eco-friendly fire retardant was applied to 53 cubic meters of cedar cladding supplied by Duffield Timber. This treatment, ensuring compliance with BS EN 13501-1 standards, was carried out by our trusted partner, FireWright, maintaining the wood’s natural aesthetics without the need for reapplication.
The project successfully enhanced fire safety and sustainability, resulting in a secure and visually appealing environment for students and staff. This collaboration highlights the importance of innovative, eco-friendly solutions in modern construction.
