Forge Mill Farm in West Bromwich is a government-run visitor center where families, schools, and colleges can learn about animals, food, and the environment. As part of the site’s development, a new multi-purpose building has been constructed, housing an indoor play area, café, and educational space.
The building’s exterior is clad with Thermowood, a modified redwood product known for its durability, stability, and natural aesthetics. To ensure fire safety, the timber was treated with a natural fire-retardant solution, maintaining its original appearance while achieving Euroclass B s1, d0 classification. The treatment process involved controlled impregnation and kiln drying, ensuring the material met the required moisture levels before installation.
This project demonstrates how sustainable, natural materials can meet modern fire safety standards without compromising aesthetics. With full traceability and certification, the building will stand as a safe, functional, and visually appealing space for years to come.
