The Bredius Sports Complex in Muiden, Netherlands, sets a new standard for circular construction and sustainability. Designed by Lichtstad Architecten, this facility integrates indoor and outdoor sports spaces, fostering social interaction and community engagement. The building’s design emphasizes transparency and connectivity, featuring extensive internal windows and an elevated canopy overlooking the outdoor fields.
A key aspect of the project is its commitment to sustainable materials. The façade cladding consists of LDCwood® ThermoWood® Pine, chosen for its durability, stability, and environmental benefits. To ensure compliance with fire safety regulations, our partner Lemahieu Fire Protection treated approximately 3,400 linear meters of this thermally modified pine with Burnblock®, achieving a fire reaction class of B-s2, d0.
This innovative approach has not gone unnoticed — the Bredius Sports Complex was awarded the Archello Award for Best Sports and Leisure Building of the Year 2023, securing the public vote for its outstanding design and sustainability efforts.
The Bredius Sports Complex stands as a testament to the potential of sustainable architecture, combining functionality, fire safety, and environmental responsibility.
